Reflection for 24th Su of OT

Is 50, 5-9; Ps 116, 1-6. 8-9; Jam 2, 14-18; Mk 8, 27-35

Continuing on my Catechesis on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, In the Mass, we next reach the Gloria.

“Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax, homnibus, bonae voluntatis” (Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace to men of good will ) (Ref Lk 2, 14)

At this point in the Mass, our minds should be on the Incarnation of Jesus, as the angels in heaven were singing at this point in the Gospel.

The Incarnation, Emmanuel, God with us, the fulfiling of God’s promise (Gen 3, 15), the Word made flesh (Jn 1, 14) is both an act of Mercy and an act of Humility. He took on a fully human nature in all things except sin. (No Original Sin). We rejoice as do the angels in heaven when the Word took flesh. The Gloria de Angelis may very well be exactly how they sounded at the moment of the Nativity of Our Lord. Since Gregorian Chant really is a formalized form of how the Jews in the “West” chanted. A Gloria de Angelis still brings me to much joy when well done :)…(I’ve heard it so little now that I can enjoy it again)…

Next comes the collect (aka opening prayer). The collect is where the prayers of the faithful are united (hence the orans posture of the priest) to the particular prayer that’s being prayed. Unfortunately in the present translation of the OF Missal, many of the prayers lack actual substance and are a far cry from the Latin text…This will be imporved with the new translation of the OF Missal.

Catechesis on the Mass will continue next week…

“So also Faith itself, if it does not have work, is dead”

Faith in of itself is a work, an action. It is not just a personal conviction of some type, and most people subconsiously realize this; however, they don’t put this into practice.

When Protestants use “Faith Alone” (which Martin Luther OSA added the word “alone” in his German Translation of the Bible due to a ton of factors which I will not explain here)…They mistakenly mean the internal aspect of faith while neglecting the objective exterior action of Faith.

I don’t know about you all, but for myself, sometimes I find it really difficult to have faith when things are gong completely wrong all around you. Zero in chief in office attempting to brainwash kids, Islamic terrorists causing havoc with their so called religion, the objective sense of faith, knowing that God is in charge gets to be difficult (don’t get me wrong, I have faith and plenty of it, but I think you all know what I mean)…Even with my own vocation crisis things sometimes line up, and sometimes they don’t (I probably need to head to Confession)…but faith is something I’m always trying to work on and have more of it. There does not exist an absolute assurance of faith as the protestants say, for the greek tells us otherwise 🙂

I’ll have to upload my diagram which illistrates this point well….
