St Francis is rolling in his grave

Just when you thought LA couldn’t be any worse…

I copy this sickening thing from the website, my comments on the bottom:

LA Archdiocese Goes Green; Launches First Environmental Committee To ‘green’ Parishes

Today, October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology, Cardinal Roger Mahony announced that the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will “go green” through a newly established Creation Sustainability Ministry.

“We have been given the responsibility to care for our land and environment for future generations,” said Cardinal Mahony. “Our new Creation Sustainability Ministry will help each of our 288 parishes to go green, so that our Catholic community can help to preserve these great gifts God has given us.”

The newly created ministry will be spearheaded by the Creation Sustainability Committee comprised of green-minded Catholic parishioners, priests, community members, environmentalists and social justice minded people from throughout the Archdiocese. The committee will assist parishes in becoming more sustainable. It will also encourage Catholics to take action in local creation care issues that affect the most poor and vulnerable of the Archdiocese, such as giving our low income communities access to clean safe transportation and improved air quality.

The Archdiocese will have five regional celebrations launching the new Creation Sustainability Ministry with the hopes of reaching out to all five million Catholics in the three counties spanning the Archdiocese.

Following is the list of regional celebrations presided by their Auxiliary Bishop:

Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 12:30pm
San Fernando Region: Mary Immaculate Church, 10390 Remick Avenue, Pacoima.

Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 2:00pm
San Pedro Region: Saints Peter and Paul Church, 515 W. Opp Street, Wilmington.

Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 12:45pm

Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 11:00am
Santa Barbara Region: Bishop Garcia Diego High School, 4000 La Colina Rd., Santa Barbara.

Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 11:00am
Our Lady of the Angels Region: St. Jerome Church, 5550 Thornburn St, Los Angeles.

My comments:

1. Really, I mean really, I thought His Eminence was supposed to be leaving. I should have known that H.E. would be trying to cast a shadow over the new Archbishop…(oh wait, he already did that by building the Rog Mahal with custom seating)

2. Going green is apart of this new environwackoism religion. We’re going to replace regular working lightbulbs with CFL’s with Hg in them. (Hg = Mercury for you non science folks). Down right worshiping the environment in some cases (who can forget that tree video), what happened to trust in God? Oh wait, Obama’s the messiah, nevermind :p

3. Poor St Francis, he’s been hijacked and transformed into this nature worshiping, religious indifferent kumbaya Saint. Real St Francis would be ticked if this was going on and want everyone loyal to the Pope and the Church. He was after all a deacon.

4. Good thing I’m not bishop, I would have silenced Mahony and prevented him from doing anything.

  1. St Francis’s soul is tormented in *Heaven*. How the frig did Ss. Peter and Paul get forced into this farce? I think you’re right Mahony wants to cast a liberal pall over the archdiocese.

How would you have -silenced- Mahony, hypothetically of course?

  2. I guess he’s trying to “go out with a bang”…Effectively, I would have told Mahony, you are not allowed to speak publicly as i do not want you to overshadow my future running of the diocese and setting the People of God against me. And then moved the Cathedral to a Gorgeous Temple of God fitting for Him, and the Cathedra too 😀

  3. Joe, Like your idea of Archbishop Gomez silencing Mahony. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way until Mahony retires. Then Gomez has the authority to tell him to be quiet. For now Mahony still can do all the damage he wants since the Pope didn’t take away any of Mahony’s authority. On the other hand, as coadjutor Gomez can’t be ordered arround by Mahony.
As for going green, I am all for good environmental stewardship along the lines set by Papa Benedetto. However, given Mahony’s past, I agree with your evaluation of his actions. This is Mahony at his wacko PC worst.
& don’t even get me started on the hijacking of my paisan, San Francesco.

    • Right, as with most theories, not quite applicable in real life.

I agree with our Holy Father, we should do what we can to protect the environment, but not at the point of worshiping it.

      a. I will not buy those stupid Hg filled CFL light bulbs,

      b. I will support carpooling as it gets other cars out of my way

      c. If the fake fur keeps me warmer, i’ll buy it.

  4. Not surprised to see Mary Immaculate on the list but I’m sure you’re not either as we’ve both seen what goes on there. lol

    • hahaha, nope, me either, going green is something I refuse to do for the most part
